Unathi Pretty Mbengwana is a South African engineering specialist, and Founder & CEO of New Innovations Consulting & Projects (NICP), an engineering-led AI and digital consultancy. A Project Management Professional (PMP) with over a decade of experience in the water and sanitation sector, she focuses on improving infrastructure performance through reliability engineering and AI-driven solutions.
She is one of South Africa’s Top 3 nominees for the BRICS Young Innovator Prize, where she represented the country by presenting her innovation, Water Treatment Expert AI. She is also recognised among the Top 20 Young Municipal Engineers by the Water Research Commission (YECP) and as an Outstanding Candidate in Water & Sanitation by Women in the Built Environment.
Unathi serves as South Africa Country Lead for Africa Women in AI, a SHE Advisory Board Member for Africa (Female Experts in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), and a Youth Representative at the World Food Forum. She is also part of a global initiative advancing women in the Global South in STEM.
