Finalist: 2017 QEPrize Trophy
My design was inspired by the amazing aircraft I get to work on every day as part of my job. Around the front of the engine is an ingestion zone; an area where the plane has enough power to pull things up into the engine. After it rains, when there are some puddles on the ground, these engines cause mini cyclones to appear in the ingestion zone. The cyclone and the overall rush of water reaching upward in a rapid spiralling motion made me think of engineering itself – its rapid advancements and ever-broadening fields, moving upwards and into the future. The app made it very easy to get the conceptual idea of that event and form it into a trophy.
