Dr R A Mashelkar was Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), President of Indian National Science Academy and Chairman of National Innovation Foundation. He is Fellow of Royal Society, Foreign Associate of US National Academy of Science and also of US National Academy of Engineering, Associate Foreign Member, American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Corresponding Member of Australian Academy of Sciences and Fellow of US National Academy of Inventors. He has been on the Board of Directors of India’s ten premier companies including Reliance, Tata Motors, Hindustan Unilever, etc. He has been a member of External Research Advisory Board of Microsoft (USA), Advisory Board of VTT (Finland), Corporate Innovation Board of Michelin (France), Advisory Board of National Research Foundation (Singapore), among others. In the post-liberalized India, Dr. Mashelkar has played a critical role in shaping India's science, technology and innovation policies. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister for over three decades. 48 universities around the world have honoured him with honorary doctorates. The President of India honoured Dr. Mashelkar with Padmashri, with Padmabhushan and Padma Vibhushan, three of the highest civilian honours. |
