We were delighted to kick off the year in Copenhagen for an event in collaboration with the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences to celebrate our 2024 Laureates, Andrew Garrad and Henrik Stiesdal.
We celebrated the remarkable achievements of our Laureates, delving into their pioneering early work and groundbreaking contributions to wind power technology. It was an honour to hear from QEPrize Chair Lord Vallance of Balham and Danish Minister for Climate, Energy & Utilities Lars Aagaard, who underscored the vital role our 2024 Laureates play in securing wind power’s place in the global energy mix.
Lord Vallance of Balham shared his thoughts on the event, stating:
“I was delighted to be at the celebration of the 2024 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering awarded to Henrik Stiesdal and Andrew Garrad for their groundbreaking contributions to wind engineering modelling and design. This achievement is a great example of the long history of UK-Denmark innovation in clean energy technology, helping create the tools to reach net zero and to drive growth.”
The event also featured two thought-provoking expert panels, where leaders in the field tackled the commercial and scientific challenges shaping the future of wind power. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible panellists – Professor Susan Gourvenec, Marie Brøns, Kasper Roed Jensen and Thomas Thune Andersen – for sharing their expertise and sparking such meaningful dialogue. And of course, a special thanks to our moderator, Anja Bo, whose skill and energy guided the discussions seamlessly.
