Dr Paulo Gomes

Paulo Gomes is the Data Science and Analytics Manager at BA Glass, Portugal, since February 2022. BA Glass produces glass bottles and jars in 12 plants across Europe. Paulo leads the team of Data Scientists and Data Engineers and drives the digital transformation across the company. Paulo and his team develop and deliver predictive and prescriptive tools that take advantage of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Analytics. These tools aim at elevating the know-how for the production of glass bottles and jars, optimising energy consumption, assisting decision making processes and improving the end product overall quality.

Previously, Paulo worked at bp London for 10 years where he held Specialist roles in the Wells Technology and Intelligent Operations teams. At bp, Paulo’s focus was in connecting real-time data with simulation tools for drilling operations and in developing bp’s first digital twin for producing oil & gas platforms. From 2015 to 2021, Paulo also lectured Drilling Engineering in the MSc in Petroleum Engineering at Instituto do Petroleo e Gas, Portugal, in partnership with Heriot Watt University, Scotland.

Paulo holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Fluid Dynamics from the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Portugal. He has co‑authored more than twenty technical papers in journals and conferences and is co‑inventor of seven patents.
