Designing gives freedom! You are not bound to any fundamental physical laws or social standards - the only limitation a designer has is his/her imagination and creativity. Furthermore, I believe that it stimulates creativity which helps to approach problems from a different perspective. And, as mentioned before, personally I find it very relaxing.
