Earlier this summer, we were thrilled to take part in the prestigious London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF); a 15-day STEM summer camp that welcomes over 400 students aged 16 to 21 from over 90 countries and territories.
The Forum is renowned for fostering global collaboration and scientific curiosity among young minds, and this year’s event was no exception. One of the standout moments was the inspiring keynote address delivered by Nobel Prize-winning chemist, Professor Sir David MacMillan, whose insights into scientific innovation and discovery was inspiring.
At the Forum’s poster board event, where students shared their work in a collaborative setting with peers and science experts from around the world, our team and QEPrize Ambassadors showcased our annual Create the Trophy competition. This global design challenge invites young people to design the trophy awarded to the winners of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. Connecting with such a diverse and engaged international audience was incredibly rewarding, and the energy at our stall was palpable. Students were invited to explore their creativity using the QEPrize 3D Design Studio App, and many eagerly took up the challenge.
QEPrize Ambassador, Billy Thurston, reflected on the experience, saying, “A personal highlight was creating trophies with the students who visited our stall on the QEPrize 3D Design Studio App, and seeing what they can create in just a few minutes. It was a great day meeting new people and sharing with them what the QEPrize is all about!” The afternoon was a vibrant celebration of imagination, engineering, and cross-cultural exchange—an inspiring reminder of the power of STEM to unite and empower the next generation of innovators.

Following the success of the bazaar afternoon, the following Monday, QEPrize Ambassador Dr Amina Hamoud delivered a specialist lecture titled An Introduction to Automated Vehicle Design at Imperial College London as part of the LIYSF programme. Speaking to an audience of around 50 to 60 LIYSF students, Dr Hamoud explored how different subsystems integrate to build safe and reliable autonomous vehicles, while also addressing current engineering challenges and emerging technologies in the field.

Thank you to all our QEPrize Ambassadors for getting involved in this inspiring programme of events to inspire future generations to consider engineering as a career!
