Today, the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering Foundation (QEPrize) opens the 2022 Create the Trophy competition to young people from all corners of the globe. The competition, now in its sixth iteration, invites budding designers aged 14-24 to construct innovative trophies that capture the essence, creativity, and wonder of engineering.

The winning design will then be made a reality and presented to the 2022 QEPrize winners. Through the Create the Trophy competition, the QEPrize champions bold, ground-breaking engineering innovation which is of global benefit to humanity. It aims to inspire young minds to consider engineering as a career choice and encourages engineers to push the boundaries of what is possible.

The competition is hosted on the QEPrize3D app, freely available on both iOS and Android. To help accommodate diverse learning styles, users also have the option to submit imagery and text explanations alongside their designs. Entrants can choose to make a sketch or model of their trophy and photograph it or take a photograph of something that inspired their work.

The competition closes at 23.59 pm (UTC) on Wednesday 1st December and the winner will be announced on 1 February 2022. In addition to winning a state-of-the-art laptop, the winner will see their design 3D printed into the finished trophy and be invited to the award ceremony in London, with travel and accommodation included.

Last year's winner, 20-year-old Hannah Goldsmith, impressed a panel of judges from across the fields of engineering and design with her elegant and complex trophy, inspired by the circuit boards upon which much of modern engineering is done. Selected from thousands of hopeful submissions for the 2021 competition, her trophy will be presented to the creators of LED Lighting In a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
